About Homeschool Connections

Homeschool Connections of Central Maryland, or just Connections, was founded by a group of Maryland families dedicated to creating a rich, supportive community to help us on our mutual homeschooling journeys. By providing a combination of wonderful enrichment programs, access to co-operative courses, social and academic resources, and a true community of families looking to share the homeschooling journey, Connections is a place for growing, learning, and building community.

What Makes us different?

There are many different types of Homeschooling groups. Many are very structured and have strict requirements of participation and programs that you must sponsor. Others are little more than e-mail lists and lack the strong bonds of a sustained community where parents and children really get to know one another and build real friendships. Connections believes that we are a happy medium; while we require no strict participation from our members, most members happily open up programs they are doing for their children to others in the community. Our community is large enough to offer a broad and deep array of programs for children of many ages, while being small enough so that you know people by their first names, and build a real Connection with them that lasts for many years.

How does Connections work?

Connections uses our Web site, http://www.hccmd.org, as our on-line base of operations, but in most cases, the true power of Connections is found in person, in small groups meeting in people's homes or sharing classes in subjects like dance, music, scouting, or martial arts, or in large groups at the Science Fair, Field Day, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, or our annual Family Dance. Connections families work together to organize co-ops, field trips, play dates, and many other types of programs. There are no strict requirements of participation for members of Connections; you'll find a way to get involved as you make your journey.

Four times a year, Connections funds major programs exclusively for our members, such as our Field Day, Science Fair, and Talent Shows. All programs are completely voluntary and most are handled on a pay-as-you-go basis. Plus, Connections is often able to negotiate special discounts (or even free programs) for your children based on our size.

How much is membership?

Membership in Connections is just $25/year for your whole family. The fees are used to cover basic insurance and operating costs, as well as funding for our major programs each year. Most Connections programs are free or handled on a pay-as-you-go basis, making it very affordable for a wide variety of families. .
